Birmingham Shooting Leaves at Least 4 Dead, Injures Dozens More

At least four people were killed, and dozens more were injured in a mass shooting late Saturday night in Birmingham, Alabama, according to police. Four of the injured victims are currently in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, Officer Truman Fitzgerald of the Birmingham Police Department reported during a press conference early Sunday.

The shooting occurred around 11 p.m. in one of the city’s most popular entertainment districts. Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered two adult males and one adult female lying unresponsive on the sidewalk, all suffering from gunshot wounds. Paramedics pronounced the three dead at the scene, while a fourth victim later succumbed to their injuries at UAB Hospital.

Fitzgerald stated that "multiple shooters fired multiple shots" at a group of people. Investigators are working to determine whether the gunmen approached the victims on foot or from a vehicle. As of now, no suspects are in custody, and authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information that may assist in the investigation.

"This is a horrific act of violence," said Fitzgerald. "Rest assured, we are doing everything in our power to identify and apprehend those responsible for this senseless attack."

Authorities have asked local businesses to review security footage that may help in identifying the perpetrators. Federal agencies, including the FBI and ATF, have been requested to assist in the investigation.

This marks Birmingham’s second mass shooting of the year, following a deadly nightclub attack in July that also claimed four lives.
