Australia Arrests Dozens in Connection with Global Criminal App Network

Sydney Man Charged Over Alleged Ghost Network Used by Global Crime Gangs

Australian authorities have arrested a 32-year-old man from Sydney, accused of developing and managing an encrypted messaging app, Ghost, which was allegedly used by organized crime syndicates across multiple countries. The app is believed to have facilitated drug and firearm trafficking, money laundering, and even orchestrated killings.

Jay Je Yoon Jung appeared in a Sydney court on Wednesday, facing charges related to the creation of the Ghost platform, which police claim was "designed exclusively for the criminal underworld."

Jung faces five charges, including supporting a criminal organization and profiting from illegal activities. According to the Australian Federal Police (AFP), Jung sold modified smartphones equipped with the app for 2,350 Australian dollars ($1,600), including a six-month subscription and tech support.

Launched in 2017, Ghost was reportedly used by "hundreds of criminals" across Australia, Italy, South Korea, and the Middle East. The AFP has arrested 38 suspects across Australia in recent days, with coordinated raids also conducted in Ireland, Italy, Sweden, and Canada.
