Introducing the USA TODAY Sports Super 25 Girls Flag Football Rankings

Forty-two years after unveiling the Super 25 high school football rankings, USA TODAY Sports introduces a new milestone: the Super 25 Girls Flag Football Rankings.

The sport has been steadily growing, with 13 states now officially sanctioning girls flag football at the high school level. Pennsylvania is the latest state to join, and several other states are currently running pilot programs. Participation in the sport has skyrocketed by 105% since the start of the 2022 season.

Seven states with sanctioned programs are currently playing in the fall season, forming the basis for the inaugural Super 25 rankings.

Selection Process

The rankings were determined through a collaboration between USA TODAY Sports, the NFL, and the NFHS Network. A selection committee composed of editors and writers from the participating states, along with USA TODAY High School Sports staff, evaluated teams based on last year’s data and their performance so far this season.

Factors such as state rankings and early 2024 results were considered to shape the top 25 teams in the country.
